There are other ways other than flag waving to convey German-ness I bet... how about a beer & sausage (pretzel if you're vegetarian) logo? Genealogy is for the people after all, not the rulers! ;) Rick At 06:01 PM 7/22/99 -0500, ycrtmr@ix.netcom.com wrote:

What'ya mean no nation before 1871? What was the Holy Roman Empire? It was
the German nation (no
matter what the college intro book says), and its colors were recycled (via Luetzow's Jaeger) into Schwarz-Rot-Gold. And it was the state (loose confederation, I reckon) of most Germans, though not, of course, the Carpathian Germans who lived since the 13th century in Hungary. So why not have the current BRD flag, + the Austrian, + the Swiss (for example, check http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/5562 because at one point or another, all Germans came from the areas of these three German countries. Since other ethnic websites (Greeks, French, Mongols) all have national symbols (the Greeks as a matter of course include all Hellenes, not just those in the present truncated borders, and don't give a $#@*&& about Turkish complaints that they list Smyrna, though few Greeks survive in todays Izmir).
