It looks like all our webpages are mounted twice, once as /gene/reg/foobar, and again as /reg/foobar. For example, if I do a FreeFind search on Spannuth, I get these hits: http://www.genealogy.net/reg/NSAC/SLP/biblio.html http://www.genealogy.net/gene/reg/NSAC/SLP/biblio.html http://www.genealogy.net/reg/NSAC/SLP/researchers-m.html http://www.genealogy.net/gene/reg/NSAC/SLP/researchers-m.html http://www.genealogy.net/reg/NSAC/SLP/Probsthagen/OSB/Kregel.html http://www.genealogy.net/gene/reg/NSAC/SLP/Probsthagen/OSB/Kregel.html This makes our page and hit counts bigger, but isn't really necessary, is it? It doubles the number of entries users have to wade through when they do searches, and increases the chance that FreeFind will max out on spidering our site. (They do have limits on what they will do!) Apparently this is only done to shorten the absolute URLs by five characters. I think we should go back to the simpler time when life was easy and had things mounted in /gene. That way we don't have to update hundreds of webpages. (But please, let's not vote on it! ;-)
