Hi, I find the organization of this page has a slight problem. Suppose one comes into the page seeking to research Alsace-Lorraine. The first thing one encounters are the following targets: Germany Liechtenstein Austria Switzerland Other European countries Outside Europe Now where would you click to find Elsass-Lothringen? On "Other European Countries", right? But surprise! you won't find it under there. How can we fix this? I suppose we could put Alsace-Lorraine under Other European Countries. But I suspect it would be more useful to put the following flow chart first, rather than last on the page. Leave the map at the end for those who can cope in no other way. To find the region/state of your interest: If the time period you are researching is prior to 1945 and you know the state of the German Empire in which the locality you are researching lay, go directly to: Germany: 19th-Century. If you do not know the state of the German Empire in which the locality lay, but do know the present German state (Land), go to: Federal States. If you do know the foreign country (Belgium, Denmark, France, Lithuania, Poland, or Russia) in which your research area lies, go to: Former German Territories If the time period you are researching is after 1945, go directly to: Germany: 1990. If you know the town, but not the region, please see the Gazetteer section. Help can also be found with the: Index of countries, states, provinces or geographical regions. Rick
