Good morning/day, for some years now www.genealogy.com has quietly muddled along. Most of our creators live in germany and don't see what their work has created. I just wanted to say that more and more commentary says words to the core of 'the one site which must be used to do German genealogical work'. Quite a compliment to the people who created it. I'm sure most of you know of Cyndi Howells and her list of almost 30,000 genealogy on-line resources. She's now an author and has been quoted in many www, PC and other media as an authority on the subject. She says in a current article in "Heritage Quest' : 'This site, dedicated to German genealogical research, has been around for some time and is frequently updated. It resides on three different servers, including one in Arizona ... and others in kerpen and Giessen, Germany. This site is a treasure trove of information to aid in all areas of German research. The regional research section has an "Index of States, Provinces and Regions" that guides the visitor to pages with with specific information for German states and former territories as well as Austria and Switzerland. The regional pages contain everything from information on societies, libraries and bibliographies, to maps, links to other sites and similar research tools. Among its many gems of data, the site features a set of documents with tips for beginners, a FAQ page with information regarding the German newsgroup - soc.genealogy.german, a page for "Emigration from Germany to america" and a list of genealogical events. This website is The starting place for german research online. I've seen other listings for German genealogical web resources where we are right at the front above all others. Just thought yo9u'd like to see one such comment here on this list.
