I have to agree with Rick : even if you don't answer individual requests, the page in English alone will be much more than nothing in English at all.
I agree. But I suppose the real question to other regional web page managers (I'm not representative!) is not how many requests are coming in, but how many are there in German/English/French/...? There is already a German page for Hessen, after all, that should be soliciting all the German requests for information that they can expect. Since my name is on the FAQ, I often get quite general requests. I used to get them quite often, several a day, so I too made up a standard reply. Recently, though, the number of these has dwindled remarkably. I can think of several explanations: 1. I haven't been posting to soc.genealogy.german as much. 2. Most newbies are already on the net, or, said differently, everyone is an oldtimer now, in net years. 3. Our web pages are answering most questions. 4. Nobody is finding the FAQ anymore. 5. Other web offerings are diluting the interest / meeting the needs. I suppose all of these are true to some extent. -- =Jim Eggert EggertJ@LL.mit.edu
