[Webpages-l] de.sci.genealogie
It is a bit premature perhaps, but it appears to me that a new Usenet newsgroup will be formed for German genealogy. A CfV (Call for Votes) is underway for de.sci.{genealogie,ahnenforschung,familienkunde} as of 23 Jan 2000. See Usenet news message <1.CfV-Einrichtung-de.soc.genealogie-20000123@dana.de> for details. The proponents of the new newsgroup have neglected to make any preparations for a postings archive or for an e-mail gateway. Indeed, the one proponent who answered my private e-mail on this topic considered such preparations unnecessary. This is a huge mistake. I think that the German genealogy team should step into the gap and set these up, assuming that the newsgroup is formed. There appears to me to be nothing preventing us from doing so. I propose that the archive and the e-mail gateway be set up exactly as those for soc.genealogy.german, but be separate from sgg. This would provide the desired capabilities at the minimum expense of effort. I am also preparing a German-language version of the FAQ for soc.genealogy.german. I'm using the translation team to help me. -- =Jim Eggert <EggertJ@crosswinds.net>

Richtig.

Arthur.Teschler@uni-giessen.de
