[Webpages-l] Re: Mailing List Entries

Hi Arthur:
I think I may have a problem with the entries for the various German genealogy mailing lists on my web pages. At the present time, the entries for the following lists tell folks to send "subscribe" to LISTNAME-L-request@genealogy.net
BRANDENBURG FamNord
No -L in this case. In fact you send "subscribe" to XYZ-request@genealogy.net. Where XYZ is the listname, ususally something-L.
FRANKEN HANNOVER MECKLENBURG OLDENBURG OW=PREUSSEN
Should be OW-PREUSSEN (- instead of =)
POMMERN SACHSEN-ANHALT SCHLESIEN WESTFALEN
I received an email from someone who was unable to subscribe to MECKLENBURG. In checking the Germany GenWeb site, I found references to a number of lists that directed folks to subscribe by sending "subscribe listname-l" to majordomo@genealogy.net on
http://pages.prodigy.net/jhbowen/news.htm http://www.angelfire.com/ar2/apeebles/sachan/sachan.html
Both have outdated info. I'll contact them.
I thought you had changed from majordomo to mailman last year but it looks like you have reinstituted majordomo.
This is not the case. I'm thinking about an automated response from the majordomo address, there are still some people who try it.
Please let me know how the subscribe instructions should read for the above lists.
Perfect, apart from FamNord, which is just FamNord not FamNord-L (for whatever reason)
A couple of other items.
1. In checking for the proper subscribe instructions I went to the genealogy.net site to see what appears there; however, the mailing lists link to mailman/listinfo-e was broken at the top of:
You are right. This one of the things I want to fix in the near future, probably this week.
2. In a number of places on the Germany GenWeb site there are links to my mailing list web pages; however, the URLs shown are very old. While I do have redirects, I recommend the URLs be changed to the current site since the redirects could go away at any time. The old and current URLs are:
Old: http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html Current: http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html
I will check for it as well. We restarted checking our external links automatically. We had do reconstruct several things due to hardware and provider changes. Most but not everything is running smooth again. Arthur
