Re: http://www.genealogy.com/gene/reg/AUT/krainf-e.htm
Fred, I agree with your comments - but look: this is Austria -- and the clocks tick a bit slower. I think it may be a bit of "political" problem; they are worried that inexact or misleading information might be published "somewhere", etc., etc. . . . and I suspect that the responsible persons are overwhelmed with the speed of developments on the web and don't know what to do about it (this is an "Amt" -- and decisions take a while). They are certainly not fast movers. I was assured that they were planning something themselves but I'm pretty sure that there's nothing in the pipeline yet. Anyway, the /krainf-e.htm is great; it's just that my name should be scratched (I go there quite often and I don't want to become a persona non grata). I really don't even know what it is you're talking about as I don't inspect the Austria pages. My comments were rather general and I can't even imagine a person who resents information for it own sake. If I write something about a particular church in Vienna, I certainly would not expect the pastor to be upset about it unless I plainly lie. To me mentioning the various genealogical organizations and their function is the same thing. How can anybody in their right mind object to this unless if everythng there is only the truth?

Maybe they want to build their own pages just like some of the other genealogical groups which we house on genealogy.com. They are always welcome to tell their own story in their own words. In the meantime we have something about them from whatever source we could find.

Aren't you one of the Austrian page maintainers? Change your name to a login or something if you don't wish to be identified by name. Such changes are really up to the people maintaining the pages. The idea is not so much to have a name down there but to be available electronically to people who have questions or can suggest changes.
