They are working on the pages all the day. Baden-Wuerttemberg is in English and German. I very often point to them as they really have every adress you need for a research in B-W. They also do have a translation service, general tips and hints. My link is directly to the BA-WUE page, there is no need to surf through www.genealogy.com. Could be, that some of them are not finished or translated yet. In my case I see my pages in adition to theirs (they have a link to my pages too). The person who manages the B-W pages is in the same society as me, so we often get in contact, discussing on which pages we publish something. They do have the same troubles as us, they need volunteers. I f your get subscribed to the webmasters list, you 'll get an idea of their work. And I have to repeat it, we should work together with them, to avoid to do twice the work. Why shouldn't we do some work for their pages too? For example I am collecting the surnames and queries, they collect adresses of the societies, archives, bibliography and so on. Why not? Those societies are not listed on one page, they are listed on the appropriate regional page, that's why I said to make a link to the regional pages from each GenWeb-country. Check the page http://www.genealogy.com/gene/reg/ger1871.html or ger1990.html for the structure. Their regional pages all have the same design and information. Hi Frank, now that I look at it I know this page, but I find it to be very frustrating, because it takes so long to get anywhere, and not all of the areas have any listings. For instance, Schleswig-Holstein on the page above just takes you to other places with links to Lubeck, Schleswig, Lauenburg, usw., but those just take you to another list.
The only one which I tried where I could finally get to a list was for Hannover, and there were three societies listed, but they are all German, and while I don't mind, there are a lot of people using the Germany site that don't know any German. I agree with you that it would be better if we could find a site that already had listings for societies and such so as not to duplicate any work, but user friendliness is key, too. That's one reason I don't visit www.genealogy.com that much because I find it very poorly indexed and frustrating to use, since many of the links don't take me where I think they will or take me to another list which takes me to another list, like the way Sch.-Hol. is set up.
What I was thinking about is a list that has the names of some societies, thier address, URL if there is one, membership costs, what they do, etc. I'm going to check out the FEEHS page, too, I think they may have a good listing.
Anyway, what do you think about www.genealogy.com? Do you find it helpful or useful?

Das finde ich so problematisch nicht. Wer's ernsthaft tut, kommt auf lange Sicht um's Deutsch lernen sowieso nicht herum. Andererseits, wenn jemand schon so lange dabei ist, dass er (zu diesem Zweck) Deutsch gelernt hat, findet er moeglicherweise bei uns kaum noch neues.

Das ist aber hauptsaechlich so weil wir nicht genug Seiten fertig haben. Wenn Schleswig-Holstein zB fertig waere koennte dort ein internal link auf Vereine (oder der Verein selber) die mit Holstein was zu tun haben stehen. Im Moment sind die Biester alle auf: http://www.genealogy.com/gene/www/ghlp/verbaende.html versteckt. ich denke es ist aber halb so schlimm wie der arme Mann es macht. Er muss ja einen Grund haben das alles noch mal zu wiederholen und nach seiner Nase machen. Was ich eigentlich vermisse sind die 500,000 hits die wir schon mal hatten. Es scheint wir haben wieder von vorne zu zaehlen angefangen. Geht das zu aendern Brigitte? Ich weiss wohl das es nicht das Beste ist aber ... ich bin immer feste am recruiten hier. Gewoehnlich happert es immer an unseren Regeln. Wenn das auch keiner sagt aber ich denke bestimmt das die meisten den ich das alles erklaere ihre eigenen Sachen bauen wollen - so wie sie es wollen und mit "ihren" Daten. Nur sich den Schlund fuer andere abhauen macht kaum jemand Spass.
